If you’re sceptical about the power of email newsletters then you’re in the right place. There have been countless studies which have shown that email newsletters are still a powerful way to reach your audience. It’s helpful in communicating with your customers, and getting them to purchase or invest in your products. Especially small or new businesses – email newsletters are a great way of maintaining a good working relationship with your customers and keeping them in the loop.

However, it seems there are so many newsletters today which aren’t helpful, interesting or worthwhile. Nearly everybody is subscribed to something which sends weekly emails that we don’t bother to read. How many times have you been sent an email, to scan through it and then delete it immediately without taking in any of the info in it?

The chances are that you’ve come across several of these emails and it’s these that have put you off sending out your own newsletters. If you are still undecided about what you should do regarding your email newsletters then read on for some tips on how to create content that people will actually read.

Stay informative

The whole reason for sending these email newsletters out is to keep your audience informed of what’s going on with your business and your industry. However, many of these newsletters find it hard to stay informative and that’s when people start to lose interest.

People love to be in the know, and they love knowing things that they can pass onto friends or family. If you can provide tips and information then people will definitely read what you have to say. Try fun facts and useful tips which are relevant to your industry. These are perfect because they’re short and to the point and easy to read. Or you could provide your customers with information about what’s happening in your industry. This is especially good if you can link it back to how it relates to your business and provide an insider opinion on it.

Inject some fun facts or useful tips which are relevant to your industry.

You should also try to keep people aware of community happenings. Whether you’re a local business and want to keep people informed of what’s going on near you, or if you’re a bigger business and want to let people know about relevant events. This is also a great chance for you to get involved in local activities and get your name out there. It helps to build relationships with other businesses, and people will start thinking of you as a name they can trust.

Be consistent with your content.

It can be hard to keep track of all of the things that you’ve sent or topics you’ve already covered, but it’s worth it. A lot of email newsletters end up repeating themselves after a while and that’s when it gets boring and they start losing customers. Try to keep on top of things that you’ve already written about so you’re not just rehashing old ideas. And if you do end up writing about the same thing try and do it from a new perspective or with new information.

One of the most important things when coming up with newsletter content is to remain relevant to your audience. It’s far too easy to go off topic and lose their interest. So whatever it is you decide to write about, keep it consistent, keep it relevant and keep it funny. People love to laugh and if you’re known as a fun informative brand then they’re likely to keep coming back.
